Trading Standards refuse fine paid in pennies

John Williams - Thursday 19.02.09, 17:02pm

Would you turn down a shopping trolley full of cash?

The trading standards office in Birmingham (England)  have refused to accept the cash from wheel clamper Gary Southall as payment for legal costs he owes to the city council following a court case.

The reason – Southall had filled the shopping trolley with the outstanding payment of  £1300 in pennies! The trolley which takes three men to move and weighs almost half a tonne was delivered by van to the trading standards office, where it was turned away.
