Britains fourth largest energy supplier npower, have reported an increase in profits for this year of 41% on the previous years figures.
Coming just a day after British Gas posted a five fold increase in profits, the news is bound to anger homeowners, business and watchdog organisations. Indeed energy industry regulator Ofgem launched an investigation into household bills, with concerns that the UK market is not competetive enough.
Consumer group energywatch today called for an inquiry by the Competition Commission.
Spokesman Graham Kerr said: ‘These companies are making very healthy profits for shareholders but they are not healthy for customers.’
As with British Gas, npower had increased its rates only weeks ago.
